The letter E

We're back from another fun art class today. Emma was so excited to go back this morning -- she has been talking about it for days. Her face lights up, and she yells "ART class!" and claps her hands together.

Today was all about letters of the alphabet. It was a perfect tie-in for the week because Emma's babysitter, Miss Sarah, has been talking about letters with the kids, and this was the week that they talked about the letter E. In art class, we sang the ABC song, which she is getting very good at, and then we went over the first letters of all of the kids' names in the class. They each got a large cut-out of their letter, and we went to our little stations to decorate the letters with glue and sequins. I couldn't get a super clear shot, but here is how Emma's turned out:After that, they got to use paint and letter stamps to make a second picture. Since there are 9 kids in the class, each one only got a few letters. Emma had S, J, and Z, and then luckily Miss Chris found an E in the container. Here is what that one looks like:
Once again, Emma got stamps on her hands at the end of class. Today Miss Chris was giving out frog stamps. Emma admired them in the car as we left.
You can see in the picture above that Emma also has a container of Play Doh in her lap. Miss Chris let each of the kids pick a color of Play Doh, and they got to play with it for about 5 minutes. She encouraged the parents not to be afraid of letting your kids play with it. It's very good for helping them develop fine motor skills with their hands, for things like writing as they get older. Emma wasn't really sure what to do with it at first, but after she watched some of the other kids, she started to get the hang of it. We got to take the Play Doh home, so I'm sure we'll be breaking it out soon at the kitchen table. It's so cute...Emma calls it "Pluto" instead of "Play Doh"!

Last, but not least, we leave you with the Snarl of the Day:
Grandma & Grandpa H left for Ireland & Scotland last night. We are wishing them a safe and enjoyable journey. One that hopefully includes a trip to the Waterford crystal gift shop!
