Emma's first haircut

Well, it happened a little earlier than I would have liked, but today Emma got her first haircut. Nothing fancy, just a quick trim by Mommy on the bathroom counter. Emma wasn't concerned in the least. Mommy didn't enjoy it, but it had to be done.

Sometime during the last week, Emma decided to pull out a bunch of her hair...but only on one side of her head -- the opposite side of the hand that she uses to suck her thumb. This makes us think she probably did it while falling asleep. It's not unusual for her to play with her hair while she sucks her thumb, but she's never pulled hard enough to take this much hair out before.

Whatever the cause, it looked pretty silly to have one side short and the other side with messy curls sticking out. So I finally gave in and snipped off her pretty curls to make it even. I know it will grow back, but for now I miss those curls! Emma sometimes says a "k" sound instead of a "t" sound, so she would tell you that she still looks "cuke"!

The before picture, taken this morning (don't you love her "bracelets"?):
And the after picture, minus the curls:
We had a nice Father's Day yesterday. Daddy got to take it easy for most of the day, which seemed like it was just what he needed. We had Grandpa & Grandma H over for dinner last night, and we are meeting up with Grandpa & Grandma K tonight. Emma sure loves hanging out with her Grandpas!
