It's been a busy week! Last Wednesday, Andrew stayed home with Grandma and Grandpa H while Daddy, Emma, and I flew out to Arizona to visit Cooper and his family. Emma was so excited to see her buddies Cooper and Addison that she could barely sleep for the couple of nights before we left. She did great on the 3 hour 45 minute flight, although she did ask me how many minutes until we would be in Arizona probably once a minute. Once we got there, the kids jumped in and started playing together like they hadn't been apart for a single day. They even sat at their own table at lunch and all sat on the same side of the booth together!
Where Cooper lives is flat desert, but in the distance is a big mountain range, which makes for excellent scenery. This particular shot is not taken from Cooper's house, but the mountains are pretty much all around you no matter where you go:
Emma had a blast swimming in Cooper and Addison's pool.
One day we visited the Desert Museum. It was about 105 degrees, so an ice cream break was an absolute necessity. Tim snapped tons of great pics while the kids were eating their ice cream cones. You'll have to wait for the Flickr pictures to see them all, but here are a few great ones:
On our hike through the Desert Museum, Cooper and Emma decided to hold hands. Remember this photo -- we'd like to think we will see a very similar pose when they are walking down the aisle in 20 years. ;)
On Friday, we went up into the mountains, but we'll save those for the Flickr post. We didn't get a whole lot of photos because every single pull-off was closed due to extreme fire risk, but the drive up and down the mountain was absolutely breathtaking! And I'm pretty sure Emma slept through 90% of it. Oh well...
Saturday we had to say goodbye. Everyone handled it remarkably well, except for Emma who cried on and off all morning. She was so sad that we had to leave. We kept reminding her that we were not saying "goodbye," just "see you later." That helped, but she was still bummed. Addison came up to her, gave her a big hug, and said, "I love you so much, Emma!" They are all so sweet together!
Sunday was Father's Day, so the kids gave Daddy their presents they made for him at school, and we went out for a fancy lunch at Wendy's. I'd like to think my kids are pretty lucky, getting to have the best dad ever as their own!
And we can't have a post without a baby appearance, or else I'll get an earful from various relatives. I thought we'd better take a picture of Drew in his Cubs onesie when he put it on after his bath last night, because it's not going to fit for much longer!
For the record, that is an official Chicago Cubs onesie, purchased within the friendly confines of Wrigley Field by Grandpa H last year. We all know Tim's kid is not going to wear sports gear that isn't official licensed merchandise!
