Fiesta!

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, we had some friends over last weekend for a mexican fiesta. (Or, as Emma calls it, a "bee-yetta".) When I told Emma about the food and party plans, her face lit up and she said, "Oh, that sounds like so much fun!" A trip to Party City to pick out decorations sealed the deal, and she was ready to party by Saturday afternoon.

We were a little nervous about how we would entertain 7 two year olds after the rains started Saturday morning and didn't let up all day -- it seems that almost all of our friends have a child between the ages of 18-36 months! Somehow, they all managed to find ways to keep themselves entertained inside. Sure, the entire contents of Emma's toy cabinet were scattered all over the family room, but at least the kids were happy!

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at the party, including Emma, who amazingly slept through the entire first hour -- through doorbells, kids yelling, music playing, etc. After dinner, we broke out the fake mustaches we had stumbled across while buying decorations. They were worth every penny of the $1.99 we paid for them! Because we are nice, we won't post ALL of the pictures of our various mustached guests, but here are a couple to give you an idea.

Emma's buddy Jackson:
Tim and some coworkers (and a coworker's husband): After the party wound down, some neighbors invited us to go over to Cinco for some live music. Since we didn't have a sitter lined up, and since she'd taken such a long nap, we dragged Emma along. Sure felt like great parents, arriving at the margarita bar at 9pm with a 2 year old! We found some seats near the band and chatted with our neighbors while Emma played and danced. She loved listening to the music! We're going to try taking her to another live concert this coming weekend. Hopefully she will enjoy it just as much. She hung in there until about 10:30 before she finally hit the wall, so we headed home and called it a day.

Emma has been entertaining us with little gems just about every day lately. it's amazing to see how the wheels are turning in her little head. Here are a few that made us laugh.

- While discussing the food plans for the fiesta, I suggested that we might have some fruit to go along with the mexican feast. I asked her, "What's your favorite kind of fruit?" Her answer: "Hmm...chocolate fruit." Hard to argue with that answer!

- One of her favorite foods lately is carrot sticks and ranch dressing. I asked her one day, "Are your carrots and ranch delicious?" She replied with, "Yes. And so are you, Mom." It made my day!

- She stunned me the other day with her memory recall. I told her we were going to stop on the way home to get a cheeseburger for her lunch (it's the only meat she'll willingly eat!). She asked which restaurant we were going to. I told her Wendy's, which we don't eat at very often. She said, "Oh, then I can have some bunny rabbit milk!" Their milk is Nesquick brand and has the Nesquick bunny on the bottle. How she remembered that the "bunny" milk is at Wendy's absolutely amazes me. I guess the "kids remember everything" stage is coming faster than we thought!

Since this is Emma's blog, we should have at least one picture of her. Here's a shot of a typical Emma breakfast. Cinnamon toast waffles, a plate with syrup for dipping, a few almonds, two princess vitamins. milk, and water; all arranged in a very specific order. Bon appetit!
